Celebrating Out of the Can 2026

On 25 September 2026, our Out of the Can International Film Festival community came together to celebrate independent cinema, creative talent and the stories that connect us.

Thank you to everyone who joined us and helped make the event special. From conversations in the cinema to photographs with our guests, the day was an opportunity to share our love of film and recognise the people behind the productions.

Making an independent film takes determination, imagination and teamwork. We are proud to give filmmakers a platform to share their work, connect with audiences and celebrate their achievements.

Our 2026 Award Highlights

Congratulations to our award winners:

• Best Short Film: Just One Moment — directed by Myrto Makrides.

• Best Feature Film: After School — directed by Merijn Scholte Albers and Tobias Smeets.

• Best Music Video: Walk With Me Through The Fire – The Curse of KK Hammond — directed by K.K. Hammond.

These are just some of the achievements celebrated in our 2026 festival. To every filmmaker who submitted their work, and every cast and crew member who helped bring those stories to life: thank you for being part of Out of the Can.

Thank You to Our Festival Community

A festival is about the people as much as the films. We are grateful to our guests, audiences, team and supporters for their time, enthusiasm and encouragement.

Whether you joined us in person, submitted a production or supported the festival from afar, you have helped build a community where independent storytelling has a place.

Looking Ahead to Our Tenth Anniversary

In 2027, Out of the Can celebrates its tenth anniversary, and we look forward to marking that milestone with filmmakers and storytellers from around the world.

Our next edition will also welcome books and audiobooks, expanding the ways we celebrate creative voices.

Keep an eye on our website and social media for festival news, submission updates and anniversary announcements.

Thank you for being part of Out of the Can 2026. Here’s to the stories still to come!
